It basically crushes the wind pipe when the baby is in the curved position. This particuler one had caused three deaths and the company is being sued.

I would have given this 3 stars, but....
I went to Consumer Reports and read the report about them. I now know my never really being comfortable w/ this sling was for good reason.

We received our Sling Rider Sling as a baby shower gift w/ our first child back in 2005. We never got to use it as she passed away at 2 1/2 months of age from SIDS.

When we were pregnant w/ our second child and trying to save money, I pulled this out to use w/ our son. We used it when he was less than 4 mos. old as he was 9 1/2 lbs at birth, so he got to the weight maximum quickly. It would make him calm down when he was fussy and go to sleep. However, I remember being INCREDIBLY nervous about his face being covered by the padded walls of the sling, along w/ not being able to see his face, and the sling would swing out from my body if I leaned forward w/o my arm in front of it, no matter how tightly I secured it. My son also used to get VERY warm in this sling. I would have him in a thin onesie, and when I would pull him out,he would be bright red and hot to the touch from head to toe(overheating is also a risk factor for SIDS, which also made me very nervous as well). The straps were also so thin that if you wore the sling for more than 30 mins., your shoulder was in agony.

I am now pregnant w/ our third child, and I plan on buying a Maya Wrap in the next few months to replace our Sling Rider. I had planned on getting one anyway, but now I am definitely getting one no matter what. I tried the Maya wrap in a boutique w/ several weighted babies of different weights before putting it on my registry. I was amazed how much more comfortable they were(the "lightly padded" Maya wraps are only padded in the shoulder, but OH MY GOODNESS does it make a difference-and the shoulder strap is also a lot wider, so the weight distributes more evenly w/o pressure points; It also fastens securely to you higher up-well above your navel, where any good sling should sit- so the baby is more securely held). These are more comfortable, and MUCH safer, as you can do different positions, all of which allow the baby's face air and room to breathe. They work until your child is 35 lbs, so even though they are more expensive(.99), they are safer and well worth the extra money.

Safety risk!
Please do not buy this sling for your baby. It presents a suffocation risk. Children have died in this sling.

My baby loved this sling
I used this for my daughter when she was a newborn and she loved it. It felt secure because of the swaddle/harness inside and she was close to me so I could feel and hear her breathing. It was very comfortable for me too.

Not worth it
How many babies have to die in one of these carriers before they stop selling them?
