Great Book!
This book has a lot of great ideas and signs. It uses a lot of the same signs other book I have use plus more. I cant wait for my daughter to be old enough to start signing back to me.

Great for babies through elementary years
This has almost every sign I have tried to look up and is easy to read and understand. I love the section at the end that has songs you can sign to. I am teaching my twins to sign. We started when they were about 6 months old, but I have a step son that is 8 who loves to look up different things in the book. I leave it out so he can look up things when he wants. It is easy enough to read that he gets almost all the signs right without any help. This is a great book for any family that wants to sign!

Excellent Resource
This is a great book. I bought it in combination with The Baby Signing Time DVD and both are working great toward teaching my little one sign language. I like that they both teach ASL which is an actual language, not made up baby signs. Highly recommend both.

Good Starter, Basic with ASL Signs
I bought this to start signing with my son. It covers the basics and allows you to start signing without a lot of reading. It is broken down into sections by age and says you can start signing from birth. The best part is it is ASL so I am learning and teaching ASL, not my own made up signs. It got me started which is great and we'll see if and when my LO picks it up..fingers crossed!

Easy to use with great visuals and memory aids
This book is fantastic because it clearly gives you movement and location of hands when signing. Memory aids are an added plus. I recently started taking care of my grandson of 4 months and have already started signing words. He watches attentively to my surprise. I also teach his parents so we are learning together. We started with four signs for mama, dada, grandma and aunt. We use the first letter of the grandmas names to distinguish between grandmothers.

I decided to teach my grandson signing because of my concern about him being able to communicate with his parents if he doesn't like a babysitter or something that makes him sad. So many babies are in the hands of daycare, nannies or babysitters without a means to communicate their experience. I know there are many superb daycare providers! I just want my grandson to participate in the choice for him. It will be a while before he can sign so I will babysit him until then. It is such a joy! Picking the rights words to teach first is key. The book gives excellent suggestions on how to give meaning to the words you choose.

Product Description:

Communicate with babies -- even before they can speak.

Before a baby can talk and before a toddler can say completely understandable words, they have important things to say. Babies and children are often more interested in connecting with parents or other caregivers than playing with their toys.

The Baby Signing Book uses American Sign Language, which is ideal for babies and toddlers because:

  • The ability of babies to understand what they see develops well before their ability to understand what they hear.
  • The ability of a baby to speak develops between the ages of 12 and 18 months, while the ability to use American Sign Language develops between 6 and 12 months.
  • Babies understand what they see much earlier than typically expected, and are able to sign well before they are able to talk.

The Baby Signing Book teaches parents 300 developmentally appropriate American Sign Language signs. With clear instructions for every sign, memory aid, song and game, the learning in this program is easy to follow and, most important, fun for all. Language milestones are charted throughout the book so progress can be charted. The book also features a variety of visual highlights that emphasize key concepts and interesting tips.

Adults can customize a program according to the family's needs and aspirations. With the dictionary of 300 symbols, this handbook is clearly the most user-friendly and comprehensive baby signing book available.
