Good book for looking for names
It had the typical boy/girl section, but it also has different lists that you can search through. Weather you are looking for a specific country or types of famous people/characters, such as lawyers, Presidents names, Pilots, Hippie name, ect. I like how they have the different lists, but the reason I only gave it 4 stars is because it only gives the top 10 popular names for each gender. I would prefer a bit more of a selection in each area. But the list for Girls and Boys is very extensive. It give you the meaning of each name, and weather it is American, Latin, Hebrew, ect.

A complete waste of money, IMO. No alphabetical listing for "Charlotte", but if you're looking for something unique like Nut, Celery, or Panda then maybe this IS the book for you. This may be useful for people looking for ethnic names, I'm not able to judge on that. I would have preferred a listing of nicknames under each name, not just spelling/ethnic variations.
I agree with other reviewers that more is not always better. It seems they didn't proofread (names seen twice under the same list). And more "common" names aren't lsited, but names you can get from going to the zoo or spending time in your kitchen are. Kudos to the reviewer who said this should be called 100,001 Mostly Useless Names.

Terrible baby names book.
Celery? Broccoli? As a child's name?
What a joke. This book has a ton of words in it that I wouldn't even consider names, even keeping an open mind. I am trying to wade through this monstrosity and completely regret not reading the reviews first. I had a better baby names book 10 years, with "only" 10,000 names in it.
Good book, Lots of names, almost too many!
This book has plenty of names to choose from. It gives you some insight on where the names originated from, and the history of names. I say almost too many names because most of the names I would never even think about naming my child, but I can't take off a star for this, that is the point of the book afterall. It's nice to have so many options. Just have to do a lot of page flipping. Anyway good book overall, if you can't think of many names this book definately helps. Really fast shipping as well with amazon prime.
Information Overload
I Chose this book since it was the 2nd bestseller in baby names here on Amazon, and shoot with 100,001 names you can't go wrong, can ya ? Most of the lists of popular names are absurd, they just threw in names of popular people in today's culture. Then the most popular names of 2007 they re-list the same names multiple times within the list, and it isn't even with a different spelling. Did they not proofread this book ? Guess not after all with 100,001 names who would want to.
Half the names are unheard of and uncanny, but to each their own. I want unique but not to torture my child.
One plus is they did offer alternative spellings and origin, as well as one definition of the name.
I just found the book to be too much to digest. There was no way I could possibly sift through the entire book so I gave up and purchased a few other reasonably sized name books.
